The Bio-Leadership Project helps people and organisations meet 21st Century challenges by drawing inspiration from, and working in partnership with, Nature.

The Bio-Leadership Project is a response to three big trends:

  • The search for meaning.
  • The need to address global challenges and opportunities
    in smarter, more connected ways.
  • The critical need to protect and restore the wider systems that we are part of.

Too many of our everyday systems and organisational models hold us back from doing these things well. However, Nature is a perfect partner in finding new ways to transform and organise our human systems, from businesses to cities to schools.

Our aim is to help to do this, bringing together people from leadership, innovation, design, ecology, research and sustainability to do so.

Our vision is to make profound changes to how we grow as human systems, in order to meet the greatest challenges and opportunities of the 21st Century.

Bio-Leadership Practitioners Programme

The Bio-Leadership Practitioners Programme is a six month journey to help a group of practitioners shape new ways of working on leadership and change, inspired by Nature. The programme has emerged through a growing interest in our work with Bio-Leadership, itself unfolding as the world seeks more systemic and meaningful forms of development. Not least, this is happening at a time when we must critically address the way we organise ourselves to realign with, regenerate and protect our wider systems. Through the programme, blending Bio-Leadership content from a range of sources, collaborative action-research and different forms of peer and one-to-one coaching, the aim is to work with a group of inspired, nature-connected practitioners to shape a whole new way of doing things for the 21st Century. To find out more please click here. Note: Our 2017 to 2018 programme is already underway but we will be announcing a new 2018 to 2019 programme later this year.

The Research Hive

A new way of working wants to emerge in the world, inspired by the principles of nature. Our vision is to support and facilitate this emergence by connecting people and organisations who are navigating these uncharted waters, by sharing their amazing stories, and by exploring and supporting new ways to grow this evolution. Find out more about the first phase of our Research Hive work here.

Deep Transformation + Theory U Workshop (Austrian Alps, 25-27 April, 2018)

Our times will be marked by how we navigate unprecedented complexity. We will be remembered by how we find new forms of purpose and balance across our organisations, society and planet. To do this, perhaps our greatest task will be to face the habits and fears that keep us bound to the things we are trying to change. It is a time of unlearning, and we must create different spaces to help something new to emerge. We believe there is no better space for this than nature. Come and dive into a deeper form of knowing, related to wider models of change such as Theory U.  More information here.

Bio-Leadership European Workshop

The Bio-Leadership European Workshop will be a 3-day introduction to the ideas, tools and models we are working with in Bio-Leadership. The work will combine sharing stories and tools that we have developed so far, along with experiential practices dedicated to presence, awareness, connection and resilience. The programme is in collaboration with Bela Voda – a beautiful centre for learning, nestled beneath a Volcano, in Slovenia.  Find out more about the workshop here.

Bio-Empathy & Bio-Leadership in Brazil

Over the past 2 years we have been asked to facilitate a ‘Bio-Empathy’ module for Amani Institute’s outstanding Social Innovation management programme. The Bio-Empathy module, which takes place over four days, helps participants deeply reconnect with Nature while asking questions about how to lead a different kind of change in the world. In March 2018 we will be returning to Sao Paulo to run the 6th cohort of Bio-Empathy.

While working on Bio-Empathy, our work evolved into a wider set of workshops and programmes in Brazil – first two ‘Leadership inspired by Nature’ workshops, and then a deeper ‘train the trainers’ programme. This later programme culminated in the co-design of a 3 day Bio-Leadership workshop in March 2017. This coming March we will be launching a Bio-Leadership Practitioners Programme in Brazil, which will begin in August 2018. Please get in touch for more information.

People and Partners

The Bio-Leadership Project is evolving quickly. We are excited to be learning and working in a way inspired by nature. At this time, a group of partners, peers and advisors are working across initiatives in the UK and Brazil. We also see that the open programmes we are running are a way of connecting a network of Bio-Leaders.

Core UK Team:

Andres Roberts

Sam Black

UK creative partners and places:

Note we are currently also looking for a new admin assistant, and someone to help us lead a shared workspace project. To find out more take a look here.
